Correspondence, certificates and manuscript essays pertaining to Charles W. Brown of Shortsville, Ontario County, New York, documenting his efforts on behalf of the temperance movement through the Independent Order of Good Templars, 1871-1876. A few letters were written by Brown; the bulk are addressed to him. Correspondence centers on Templar activities, detailing the group's efforts to organize its membership and limit liquor license in various locations throughout Western New York. Essays were written by Brown on temperance topics. One is dated April 28, 1874; the remaing three are undated. One essay is untitled.
